After successful trials, a public beach is to open at Római-part, the pretty riverbank up in Óbuda lined with alfresco bars and eateries. Római-parti Plázs will be unveiled next Friday, 30 July and will operate until 22 August.

Thanks to the hard work of urban activists Valyo, after consultation with several local NGOs, Óbuda Council has granted permission for a permanent public beach at Római-part.

It was possible to swim freely here until 1973, but then the authorities put a stop to it. Now, with greatly improved water quality – something being continuously monitored – the public beach can reopen.

There will be no admission to pay. A lifeguard service will be provided and buoys will delineate the designated area where visitors can swim. There will be toilets, a nappy change, showers and sun loungers.

It will be possible to bathe at the Római-parti Plázs until dark. From 10pm to 8am, a night guard will patrol the area, which can be found by the Hattyú boathouse at Kossuth Lajos üdülőpart 15-17.

The nearest transport stop is Szent János utca on the 34 bus route, three stops from Rómaifürdő HÉV station a 15-minute walk away.
