One of Budapest’s most revered music venues, Dürer Kert, is to up sticks from its long-term location alongside City Park and move to a riverside site in deepest south Buda.
After many years at an iconic location on Ajtósi Dürer sor, a former retreat for Communist Party bosses, alternative-music venue Dürer Kert will reopen with two concert halls and a garden area by the Danube.
It’s hoped that the outdoor space should be ready by this summer, the rest of the complex in the autumn. The exact location is the corner of Hengermalom út and Öböl utca, close to the peninsula containing the leisure destination of Kopaszi-gát.
On the waterfront
“During a
nearly two-year search, we looked at a lot of locations, and the place on the
Buda embankment proved to be the best. It will have a different atmosphere to
the old Dürer, but this location on the waterfront, close to nature, is ideal, and
its size is a very nice challenge for us. The attitude and creativity of the
management here eased us into making this decision,” said Zsolt Nagy, the managing
director of Dürer Kert.
