Six lines on Budapest’s network of red trolleybuses have been done up with Christmas lights and will be zipping around town until 19 December. Each route has its own day, but at least one is guaranteed to be running from 3pm during the week and 10am at weekends. On board, small presents are being collected for children in need. Regular tickets and passes are valid, and masks must be worn.

Illuminated with 10,000 low-energy bulbs and done out inside like Santa’s grotto, Budapest’s Christmas trolley is running once more this December.

You can spot the Yuletide bus on routes 72M, 75, 76, 77, 80 and 83 – there’s a full timetable here, text in Hungarian but dates and numbers easy to work out.

The seasonal service, which runs until 19 December, is also taking part in the Shoebox Action initiative run by the Baptist Charity Service

You can leave small, wrapped gifts on board for children in need, or take them to five collecting points around Budapest, the details also given on the Christmas trolley weblink.
