The Hungarian government has just agreed to the Budapest Agglomeration Railway Strategy, aimed at developing the suburban train lines around the capital and surroundings. Stations will be renewed, transit points will be created and a railway tunnel connecting the main terminals of Kelenföld, Déli and Nyugati will be built.

With so many cars coming in from the suburbs to clog the streets of Budapestevery second driver is from outside the city – the problem of heavy traffic in town is a significant one.

This Hungarian-only video shows how much the population is growing in the suburbs, and how public transport is the solution to the traffic problem.

The long-term initiative to modernise and improve suburban rail services has just been agreed by the Hungarian government.

The new age of rail

Based on the decision, the national governments of the next two decades will spend another 3,000 billion forints (plus HUF 1,000 billion on HÉV development) on the significant development of transport in Budapest and the urban area, mainly from EU funds,” says Balázs Fürjes, head of Budapest Development.

Further details about the railway strategy can be found here.
