Passengers using Budapest’s busiest tram routes can take time out from the urban bustle by listening to a little music inspired by the greenery at two sit-down stops. The locations, both on the Buda side at Szent Gellért tér and Széna tér, are now festooned with vegetation, showcases for a unique scientific experiment involving plants and music.

While waiting for your busy tram at Szent Gellért tér or Széna tér, you can now tune into unique sounds generated by the bioresonances of plants. This might be the soft tinkle of a piano or the hum of the rainforest.

This sonication technology, inputting data and creating melodies from it, forms the basis for Music of the Plants and is now being presented at two points in Budapest thanks to a joint campaign by advertising agency ACG and energy giant E.ON.

If you don’t happen to be travelling by tram right now, you can listen to the plant-produced music here. The initiative is geared towards inspiring busy city dwellers to think about the environment, if only for a few minutes.
