A friendly juice bar has just opened in trendy Újlipótváros off the busy 4-6 tram route. Run by Tamás Dohoczki, Flóra Téglásy and József Tóth, aka Tomi, Flóra and Józsi, Lényeg ('Essence') offers cold-pressed fruit and vegetable liquids using seasonal ingredients. The idea was dreamt up by Tomi, an experienced bartender with a passion for drinks. After working in the hospitality sector, he decided to follow his own nose and the outcome turned out to be this quick-serve kiosk where drinks are made on the spot. We tested out their freshly squeezed, vitamin-packed juices and asked Tomi about the philosophy behind them.

Smiling faces and delicious juices await at the pioneering Lényeg outlet. This recently opened juice bar specialises in cold-pressed drinks but seems to have captured the flavour of trendy Újlipótváros.

“I worked as a bartender for several years then I found the idea of producing cold-pressed juices and saw its potential,” says Tomi.

He is the owner who runs the business with the help of Flóra and Józsi. The shop operates with a special awareness of the environment, which involves glass refills and an initiative to produce zero waste.

Environmental awareness

“I believe it’s crucial to be as environmentally friendly as we can,” explains Flóra.

Following these principles, they don’t use packaging, the juice jars are refillable but you can also bring your own bottle. Seasonality is another key word at Lényeg, because standing for sustainability, they produce their juices from seasonal fruit and vegetables.

At this time of the year, their basic liquids are apple-and-ginger, beetroot and carrot (HUF 220/dl). Of course, they also serve the classic fruits such as orange (HUF 300/dl), grapefruit and kiwi-and-apple (HUF 350/dl).

Trendy spicing for autumn is also among their plans. Added to the already existing mint, lemongrass, celery and ginger, soon there should be pumpkin spice and chai tea seasoning to freshen up your juice.

Business aims

“The goal is to show people quality, cold-pressed beverages and to provide a healthier alternative for juice lovers,” reveals Tomi.

And the mission is possible. People seem to come back after their first glass of juice to Lényeg and spread the word to others. Delivery is another advantage they can provide so if you are thirsty in the office or at home no problem, the juice comes to your doorstep.

Tomi also comments that his future ambitions include supplying juices to big names in the hospitality sector to reach a wider audience and make the product more accessible.

Hopefully, sooner or later, there will be an option to sit down, relax and sip your favourite juice, but until then, go and get yourself healthy pick-me-up from early morning to early evening at Lényeg.
