Tucked behind the Nagykörút, Horváth Mihály tér has always been a prominent site in District VIII, albeit a shabby one in recent years. Now the area will be relandscaped, a pedestrian-friendly plot of 900 square metres with 25 new trees.

Flanked by Szent József Church and the original telephone exchange designed around the time of World War I by notable architect Ray Rezső, Horváth Mihály tér will soon be transformed into a pedestrian-friendly zone. The church itself was recently renovated, while the Kozmo Luxury Hotel fills the former phone building.

The public space will be created with users in mind, recreational areas brought to the fore. A wooden promenade will also be created alongside Tavaszmező utca. Work is due to start by spring 2022.

Local residents are currently being consulted on the project (Hungarian-only).
