Three key bus routes leading up to the Buda hills have just become more cycle-friendly. You may now board with your bike on lines 21, 21A and 212 and head for the leafy delights of Normafa and Svábhegy, seven days a week.

Budapest has become even more amenable to cyclists as bikes may now be taken on bus routes 21 and 21A from Széll Kálmán tér, and 212 from Újbuda-közpönt. Vehicles must have a cycle pictogram on the window, and space must be made for prams and wheelchairs if required. If the bus is crowded, then the driver has the right to refuse entry.

The destinations, Normafa and Svábhegy, are among the most picturesque in Budapest. Popular green getaway Normafa is currently undergoing a family-friendly makeover, with a new playground installed and the transformation of the former ski house into a grill restaurant with a terrace.

Svábhegy is a bucolic delight, dotted with elegant villas, each with its own curious history.
