With Brexit coming into force this year, UK nationals and their family members living in Hungary before 31 December 2020 should apply for a new National Permanent Residence Permit by 31 December 2021. Applications can be submitted online or in person – the UK Embassy has just issued a series of user-friendly guidelines to help with filling out the application form. The new permit will replace all previous documentation and should allow people to live and work broadly as before.

New guidelines have just been issued by the British Embassy to help UK nationals fill out the forms they need to complete to apply for a National Permanent Residence Permit. The PDF can be found here.

The deadline for having your details in the system is 31 December 2021 – application also requires passport photos and copies of your passport, your address card (lakcímkártya) and, if you didn’t have any residence permit before, of your work contract and rental contract for where you live. You may also apply for immediate family members living here.

Once your application has been received, the authorities will contact you within 15 days for you to visit their office and provide your biometric details. Applications will be dealt with within 30 days of the initial receipt.

For all queries, please contact the call centre on +36 1 463 9292 (Mon-Thur 8am-4pm, Fri 8am-1.30pm).
