Alongside Rákóczi Bridge in south Budapest, a new railway crossing over the Danube is now ready for action following the last extensive tests. The link forms part of the burgeoning Southern Ring, better interconnecting hitherto neglected parts of Buda, Pest and Csepel island.

In another move aimed at easing traffic between Budapest and its surburbs, the new railway crossing in the south of the city is now ready for business.

Budapest's new bridge

According to Balázs Fürjes of Budapest Development: “This can safely be called the newest bridge in our capital, as the old, obsolete structures will be completely replaced in this particular case. The replacement of the first piece of the old structure has now been completed”.

One particular aspect of the new construction is that the effect of trains using it can be continuously measured with the help of sensors.
