As we reported recently, after six years on the road, MOL Bubi is giving its whole shared-bike system a revamp, replacing its old cycles and streamlining its payment process.

A total of 1,200 bicycles are being assembled at the main plant on Csepel island and will soon be tested by the general public. The new bikes will be equipped with puncture-resistant tyres, making cycling easier and faster, with a smarter finish on the frame. Already, 100 bicycles are ready for use and should soon appear on the streets of Budapest.
At the beginning of March, the testing and filtering out of possible errors will be carried out at collecting stations, after which the trials will begin.

According to Budapest Transport: “The aim is to put the system under real-life pressure and create the criteria for a smooth operation. By the end of the trials, 800 bicycles will be waiting to be introduced, with another 400 bicycles commissioned within four weeks of the start of the live operation”.
