The Pest embankment is best known for the promenade lined with five-star hotels from Chain Bridge to Elizabeth Bridge. Now the stretch north of Chain Bridge, from Parliament to Margaret Bridge, is being relandscaped to create a showcase waterfront out of a section barely seen by passengers on the famous number 2 tram.

Work will soon start on revamping the waterfront between Jászai Mari tér by Margaret Bridge and Kossuth Lajos tér in front of Parliament.

The development will extend the Pest embankment, a showcase promenade opened up to cyclists and pedestrians during the summer of 2020.

A walkway will be installed in front of Olimpia Park, the MPs’ building and Jászai Mari tér, where a new pavement and pedestrian crossing will be created.

In the meantime, the section will not be closed to cars, but most of the parking areas will be pedestrianised, thus reducing traffic.

Once this is complete, the reconstruction of the Pest embankment will be extended south to the Bálna complex.
