With fewer passengers due to the current coronavirus travel restrictions, Budapest Airport is giving its runways an overhaul. During this time, flights will continue to take off and arrive. The previous flooring will be donated to a nearby kindergarten, whose facility burned down three years ago.

With fewer travellers passing through, Budapest Airport is taking the opportunity to upgrade its two runways. The maintenance work will now be less inconvenient to local residents, and be carried out quicker. The work is scheduled to be completed by 3 April.

For passengers checking in for flights, a safe distance queueing system has now been put in place. Currently, all nationals may leave Hungary, while only Hungarians and those travelling in groups with them, may enter the country. For more details, see here and here.
