Busy but shabby Blaha Lujza tér, a key crossing point on the Grand Boulevard, should receive a major makeover in 2021-22. As reported by Budapest Transport (BKK), a call for tenders for its redesign and reconstruction has just been announced by the European Union. If successful, a convivial downtown space will be created, meeting today’s urban needs.
According to plans, the proportion of green space will be significantly increased, with many seedlings planted. The surface area will be completely step-free, the underpass renovated, a public toilet opened and the entire space modified.
The renovation of the underpass paving and the reconstruction of Somogyi Béla utca are included in the tender as an option. The renovation is also being supported by the Hungarian State, whose signature is a pre-condition for the rebuild being given the go-ahead.
