It has just been announced that Budapest will be hosting its first Comic Con convention this summer. Instigated 50 years ago in San Diego, the event originally celebrated the art of comics but has since ballooned into showcasing several genres. Other cities have also embraced the concept – and now Budapest on 15-16 August.
Now in its 50th year in San Diego, where 160,000-plus attendees are expected this July, Comic Con sees visitors dress up as their favourite cartoon characters while presentations, workshops, panels and seminars take place.
For its inaugural event in Budapest, slated for 15-16 August, organisers promise international cosplay and anime celebrities, as well as sci-fi fairs, manga, cosplay, card games and games consoles.
