From midnight, Tuesday, March 17, foreign nationals trying to enter Hungary through Budapest Airport will be held in transit, with food, water, blankets and a face mask, until they can be found an outgoing flight. Those arriving as a family, children, parents, grandparents and spouses, may enter the country providing at least one of the group is a Hungarian national. Passengers will also be able to board connecting flights at the airport and freight traffic will continue for the time being.
Hungarian citizens arriving from Italy, Israel, Iran, China or South Korea must undergo a mandatory medical screening before being allowed to enter the country.
These measures follow yesterday’s announcement of closing Hungary’s land borders to foreign nationals.
Budapest Airport will continue to function, with all nationalities able to leave over the next few days.
