As of this evening, Monday, 16 March, the renowned Budapest Festival Orchestra are to perform a series of Quarantine Concerts, broadcast live from their Rehearsal Hall, to music lovers unable to attend shows closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As announced today, Monday, 16 March, all places of entertainment in Hungary must close their doors until further notice. With this in mind, the Budapest Festival Orchestra have decided to create a series of special concerts to be broadcast live on their website and Facebook page. The BFO also hope that the public will be able to support musicians whose livelihoods are now at risk.

The shows start tonight at 7.45pm, with two more programmed for tomorrow and Wednesday, 17 and 18 March, respectively. See the schedule here.

As BFO Music Director, Iván Fischer, explained: “Now is the time to enjoy music in the intimate surroundings of home, as we should not subject musicians and the audience to a confined space. But music is needed, even more than ever.”
