The festive season has officially begun! Starting 29 November, Budapest’s illuminated Christmas tram will start running along the panoramic Pest riverfront, all the way from Jászai Mari tér by Margaret Bridge to Közvágóhíd. As well as this celebrated number 2 line, other popular routes such as the 19, 47 and 49 will be getting a Yuletide makeover.

There’s no need to pay extra – standard tickets and passes are valid for the Christmas tram, one of Budapest’s loveliest traditions at this time of the year.

Starting Friday 29 November, then running on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays, the number 2 will light up the Pest embankment. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, the brightly lit number 19 whizzes along the Buda riverfront, while on Fridays, it’s the 47 and 49, setting off from central Deák tér and crossing Liberty Bridge into Buda.

See the full schedule for the number 2 here.

Saturdays are given over to lesser-used routes, such as the numbers 42 and 50 tomorrow, 30 November, the number 14 a week later, then the numbers 62A, 59B and 69.

This special service runs until 5 January.
