A Dance House is a very traditional yet casual Hungarian event, where folk musicians play jolly, fast-paced songs and professional dancers teach visitors a few easy steps. Everyone can then dance together in a huge circle. It is easy and huge fun.
In modern times, Dance Houses have waned in popularity, but when Budapest Park held its first one after a concert by Hungarian folk-funk-pop musician Balázs Szabó in the beginning of summer, it was an immense success. The party area was completely taken over by concertgoers young and old, all dancing together to traditional folk songs in a huge circle. The atmosphere was so friendly and funky that it was easily one of the best parties at the Park this summer, so there could be no better way to say goodbye to the warmer months than with another dancing frenzy.
From 10pm, folk musicians will gather in front of the main stage playing funky folk songs, while dancers will start the party with loud whistles and chants. Don't worry if you're shy at first, the steps are very easy and the friendly and jolly atmosphere will definitely draw you in. If you want to do something really Hungarian while in Budapest, this is just the kind of night you shouldn't miss.
Dance House, 10pm, 12 September at Budapest Park. More details and tickets here.
