Tied in with the citywide plastic-free July initiative, (V)ízlelőhely has just been launched in Budapest. Loosely translated as Watering Holes, its mission is to support the use of local water resources, to draw attention to the importance of fluid intake and to provide an alternative to drinking water for those who want to live without plastic.

Behind Watering Holes is Austrian company BWT, based on the shores of Lake Mondsee near Salzburg. They provide the water purification technology so that cafés, bistros and restaurants around Budapest can join the initiative and provide BWT-optimised water. Details can be downloaded from the App store or Google Play so that you can refill your bottles for free.

The campaign has been unveiled at various venues around Budapest, including WarmUpSmúz Café, Major, Empathy Café, My Little Melbourne and Kávétársaság.

As well as offering filtered BWT water instead of from the tap, for every bottle filled Watering Holes contributes one forint to the Lámpás ’92 Foundation, which gives practical support to those with learning disabilities.

The aim is to have one million bottles filled as quickly as possible.
