Wolt is the Uber of food in Budapest. Through this English-friendly mobile app, you can order from several Budapest-based restaurants and follow your dish all the way to your door. The latest news is that from now on, Wolt not only delivers to your home, but also to public spaces in Budapest and, until the end of summer, free of charge. Our editorial team embarked on a spontaneous picnic to test this service.

Fancy a picnic? From Margaret Island to the City Park, Budapest contains so many pleasant public places where sitting with your friends enjoying the sunshine and sipping drinks is just splendid. But there always comes a time when snacks just won’t do any more and you need something more substantial like a pizza, some hummus, a salad, a burrito, a plate of nachos, some wine or even cheesecake and ice creams. That’s where Wolt comes in. You don’t have to move to enjoy an ad hoc picnic alfresco wherever you may be.

All you need to do is place an order through the app and pull the little pin on the map to wherever you may be in town. If you like, you can even leave a comment to help the delivery guy find you.

Our editorial team thought to give this a try, so a few of us grabbed a blanket and headed to Margaret Island for a spontaneous afternoon picnic. With healthy bites from Good Karma, deep-fried delights from A Séf Utcája, pastas from Vapiano and pizzas from Pizza Dell’Arte, we had everything we needed.

Based on our experience, the system works just fine: everything arrived very quickly and still warm, without any kerfuffle. And it looks like Wolt also likes the idea of alfresco picnics in Budapest, as this summer, they do not charge for delivery when you order your food to a public spot. So pick a lovely outdoor place in Budapest and get Wolt to bring some eats and treats to the party. More details
