Six new stations on metro line M3 were opened this weekend. Closed from late 2017, Dózsa György út, Árpád híd, Forgách utca, Gyöngyösi utca, Újpest-Városkapu and Újpest-központ have all been revamped, with new floors, escalators and information boards, as well as orientation devices for the visually impaired. Long due for an overhaul, the 20 stations of the Soviet-era M3 metro line that runs north-south through Pest are all being reconfigured, with a final deadline of August 2020. The lower section, between Nagyvárad tér and Kőbányai-Kispest, is next due for closure, from Saturday, 6 April. The route of airport bus 200E will be extended from its usual terminus of Kőbányai-Kispest to Nagyvárad tér. The central metro section, including Nyugati station, Deák tér and Kálvin tér, will then be the last to be worked on.

The trains have also been upgraded, manufactured by the same Metrowagonmash company responsible for the original M3 carriages from the late 1970s. The factory from Mytishchi near Moscow produced metro trains for the former Soviet Union and Eastern bloc.
