Some of you will be familiar with the situation. Hungarian friends invite you to a traditional folk dance, you’re not too sure of the steps and so you duck out – or spend most of the night pinned up against the wall for fear someone might just grab you by the arm and drag you onto the dance floor.
To pre-empt any further social faux pas, and to become more deeply immersed in living Hungarian culture, you can practise with iDanceHungary by following the well versed steps as demonstrated by Sziszi and Rubinka Szabó. Three cameras are trained on these experienced instructors as they focus on what to do with your upper body and, crucially, your feet.
Sziszi also joins fellow folk musicians Júlia Kubinyi and Attila Halmos to provide an authentic soundtrack as you go through the moves.
Recently launched at Budapest’s leading folk-music venue Fonó, iDanceHungary is no substitute for the real thing – but should be a step in the right direction.
