Organised by the Museum of Ethnography and the Budapest Metropolitan University, this pop-up presentation collates everything from an egg holder with its own handle to a rotary-dial telephone. Mostly originating from the 1970s and ’80s, the objects on show could be found in almost every Hungarian home, yet their individual function often varied from house to house.
The easy-to-assemble pille szék, known for its super light weight, could either be used for its original purpose as a chair, or possibly as a flower stand – or its detached top part could become a tray in the kitchen.
This exhibition is an attempt to examine what each relic evokes in the human mind or how the interpretation of an object may change when it's relocated from a dusty storeroom to a gallery hall.
The exhibition is on show on 29 January between 2pm and 9pm.
Address: Hidegszoba Studio, District VII. Dob utca 24, bell number 28
