Buddha-Bar Hotel closes in Budapest
Following an official announcement by the Buddha-Bar Hotel in December, the Budapest branch of the successful Oriental-style chain will close on 10 January. Opened in June 2012 at the landmark Klotild Palace, the Buddha-Bar Hotel was the jewel in the crown of the Budapest-based Mellow Mood Hotel group. As outlined by the group’s spokesperson, the decision was a joint one between the hotel operator and the owners of this historic building. The same group is developing the Párisi Udvar hotel to rebrand it as part of the Hyatt portfolio. The developments do not affect other properties of the Mellow Mood chain.

ibis Styles Budapest Citywest opens
Even before its official grand opening on 18 January, the newest addition to the ibis hotel chain in Budapest has been welcoming guests at the western gateway to the city, by the junction for the M1 motorway to Vienna and M7 to Lake Balaton. Occupying the building of the long-abandoned Hotel Wien, this newly opened branch of the French AccorHotels group is branded ibis Styles, known for its own creative design. The interior features modern pop art elements by Hungarian contemporary artist Péter Weiler. Famed for his digital paintings, Weiler creatively fused Budapest-related graphics with the chain’s international design standards. In all, 114 guest rooms feature and a bar that’s open round-the-clock.
B&B Hotels to launch in Budapest
French economy hotel chain B&B are setting up their first property in the Hungarian capital. Overlooking the Danube on the Pest side of Petőfi Bridge, the former Angyal office building will be transformed into the inaugural Budapest branch of B&B Hotels, with a planned opening in 2020. Its proximity to bustling Ráday utca and easy access to public transport should make this 214-room accommodation a welcome addition to Budapest’s rising number of city-break lodgings. With their Econochic® initiative, the B&B Hotels are committed to offer high-quality services to both business and leisure travellers.
