With Budapest’s craft-beer revolution in full swing, more and more small-batch producers are opening their own outlets to offer their ales directly to the customer. Some brewers, however, prefer to occupy a popular bar already in existence, as seen with Mad Scientist at the Szimpla and Horizont at Léhűtő. The now renamed Horizont Taproom By Léhűtő will still feature 17 varieties on draught in its two rooms, but there’s more in store at this Gozsdu Udvar location.

Horizont has long been a particular favourite of We Love Budapest. While their new venue keeps its focus on draught selections, there’s also room for food, guest ales and new varieties to sample.

In the larger space, beer will flow from 13 taps, eight of them Horizont’s, while the smaller one will serve three types of Horizont for every one created by a different producer. A horizontal design accentuates the new branding, while a monitor above the counter will be connected to Untappd showing the popularity of the brew you have chosen.

Where there once were tapas, the rebranded Horizont Taproom By Léhűtő will now offer beer-friendly baguettes and burgers. These will include varieties such as red-onion-and-cherry-beer jam, and jamón ibérico, cheese and eggs, each 1,590 forints. Your choice of hops may be accompanied by a baguette stuffed with shrimps in garlic-chili olive oil (1,890 forints) or an assorted platter of mature jamón ibérico for two, with cheese and sausage.

Of course, there is always a new beer to be opened, so you can try one made with a cold pressed pineapple juice, hopefully the first in a long line of imaginative varieties to come.
