While in Budapest for this past weekend’s 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix, German Formula 1 driver Nico Hülkenberg took the wheel of a century-old streetcar cruising along Pest’s tram 2 line on the Danube Promenade. Sky Sports posted a video on Monday that captures Hülkenberg – currently ranked seventh in F1’s 2018 standings – learning how to control this vintage public-transport vehicle, which is certainly a lot different from the high-powered race cars he is used to driving. Not surprisingly, one of Hülkenberg’s first comments is: “This is maximum speed?”

F1 racer Nico Hülkenberg is having an outstanding year with Team Renault, but he looks happy to trade the tarmac for tracks when driving a 110-year-old wooden-framed vintage tram along Budapest’s Danube Promenade, providing a short interview to Sky Sports while passing landmarks like Elizabeth Bridge and Gellért Hill. Hülkenberg especially seems to enjoy ringing the tram’s metal bell with the control panel’s big red button; perhaps he’ll ask Renault to install one in his race car? Watch the video below:

This freshly posted Sky Sports video is the latest in a series of mini-movies showing prominent F1 drivers operating characteristic vehicles around the world; previous episodes featured Lewis Hamilton in a tuk-tuk and Kimi Räikkönen in a hovercraft. Of course, we are most impressed with Hülkenberg’s handling of the Budapest tram – just FYI, Nico: BKK is now hiring!
