The little house with the red roof is a well known landmark to those living in Rózsadomb, Budapest's sought-after residential district high up in the hills. Straight out of a fairy tale, set on a quiet street corner, this house has just reopened as the Kuckó Café, offering delicious Fragola ice cream, tasty sandwiches and pastries, raw vegan options, juices and new-wave coffee. Besides these healthy treats, Kuckó welcomes guests with themed workshops and activities for kids in its redesigned interior.

Found at the Eszter utca stop of bus 11, the little red-roofed house used to be a florist’s then a popular confectionery, Mini Cukrászda. It now welcomes guests with a new interior design and reconfigured menu. Incoming owner Judit Kádár has been living in the neighbourhood for 15 years, walking past the place a thousand times with her husband and three kids, often thinking that one day it might be theirs. When it came up for rent, they did not hesitate. Judit, an interior designer, has since channelled all her creative energies into reinventing this friendly space.

Kuckó offers delicious Fragola ice cream, amazing pastries from The Mill, raw vegan creations by Szelence Café,  treats by pastry shop A flódnis and fresh sandwiches. You can enjoy home-made syrups, tasty juices by Fű Juice Bar, and British Has Bean new-wave roasts – a traditional and a bolder, light variation – also popular at cafés Tamp & Pull and Kaffeine Espresso Bar. You also find a playroom upstairs where activities for kids will be held by a pre-school teacher, and themed workshops for adults will include calligraphy, make-up and astrology.
