Between March 23rd and April 22nd, Budapest’s central Vörösmarty Square fills with stands and stalls crammed with hundreds of handcrafted Hungarian products for the Budapest Spring Fair. Besides the traditional and modern folk-art displays, visitors can sample local flavors prepared on-site, while cultural and artisanal events, workshops, folk music and folk-dance shows entertain children and adults alike.

Starting today, the annual Budapest Spring Fair presents a vast collection of locally crafted merchandise, including handmade ceramics, wooden household utensils, colorful springtime decorations, genuine leather bags and accessories, jewelry, notebooks, honeys from all over Hungary, and various textile items. As well as serving as a seasonal marketplace, the Spring Fair also offers traditional Magyar treats made on the spot, so shoppers can sample lángos deep-fried dough, kürtőskalács (chimney cake), stews, sausages and various other locally made delicacies. Themed gastronomic weeks also await.

At weekends, visitors of all ages can enjoy the various arts and crafts workshops, such as egg painting, lacemaking, gingerbread decorating, jewelry making, ceramics painting and working with textiles and leather. On a temporary stage, some 100 cultural events entertain guests during the festival, with folk music, jazz, crossover and soul concerts, as well as puppet shows, and music and dance performances. Also set up is a playhouse for kids, who can keep busy while adults go about the serious business of sampling Hungary’s potent drinks and dishes. A perfect selfie with your family and friends can be taken in front of colorful oversized letters that spell out ‘BUDAPEST’. All events are freeMore details
