Now you can add one more place to your list of desirable dining destinations if you are on a vegan diet or just crave a tasty meat-free meal in Budapest. Found on a less frequented sidestreet near the Allee mall in Buda, Deli’s Vegan is the brainchild of former yoga instructor Zsófia Deli. The menu features smoky lentil soup, Dijon burger with plant-based sausages, a range of raw cakes and daily lunch specials.

The number of eateries supporting a vegan lifestyle is on the rise in Budapest. Leaving a corporate career behind, yoga aficionado Zsófia Deli has recently added one more meat-free haven on the Buda side of town with all things vegan, including healthier versions of popular handheld treats, such as burgers, quesadillas and sandwiches.

Apart from the permanent selection at Deli’s Vegan, the menu has featured seasonal delicacies such as Thai carrot cream soup with black sesame seeds, vegetable curry with cashews and jasmine rice, and even a reimagined version of that Hungarian classic, the Hortobágyi pancake, free from animal products, of course. Many of the delicacies are gluten-free.

Deli’s Burger, the restaurant’s signature dish, is made with ajvar sauce (a pepper-based condiment), vegetable patty, vegan cheese and red onion jam that adds a sweet twist to this tasteful composition. The burger bun comes from Fill Good, a beloved Budapest bakery specializing in vegan pastries and a whole line of bread-based merchandise.

Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity. Soups cost 590-790 forints, main courses come to you for 1,250 forints, and a combination of both sets you back 1,590 forints. Adding a daily dessert to your menu brings the bill to 1,690 forints for a three-course feast. The permanent sweet selection ranges from coconut milk pudding to raw brownies.
