In Hungary’s far north-east, the wine hub of Tokaj, pretty region of Nyírség and natural thermal waters of the Upper Tisza are all deserving choices for winter break destinations. Activities range from skiing to sampling Hungary’s famous Tokaji dessert wine, with family-friendly attractions including Nyíregyháza Zoo and the Aquarius Adventure Park. Among the sightseeing options are the village of Telkibánya and the Castle of Regéc.

A newly produced English-friendly video, created by the Hungarian Tourism Agency and provided to We Love Budapest, focus on the winter delights of Tokaj, Nyírség and the Upper Tisza.

Starting in Nyíregyháza with the Aquarius Adventure Park and Spa, then the Zoo, we are taken to the little-known village of Tállya, said to be at the geometrical center of Europe.

From there, we head over to Tokaj, to visit its traditional wine cellars. The next destination is the great hiking territory of the Zemplén hills, followed by the historic diversions of Telkibánya and Regéc.

The film ends at the Zemplén Adventure Park in Sátoraljaújhely and on the ski slopes found close by.

How to get there from Budapest:Trains leave from both Keleti and Nyugati stations at regular intervals for Nyíregyháza, journey time 3hrs. For Tokaj, there are direct trains from Keleti, journey time 2hr 40min.
