Hungary’s capital has long provided the atmospheric backdrop for many a hit movie. Iconic Budapest locations appear in recent releases such as “Atomic Blonde” starring Charlize Theron, and “Blade Runner 2049” featuring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. In 2018, Bradley Cooper, Jason Momoa and Arnold Schwarzenegger are among the A-list movie stars that will keep Budapest buzzing while they work on films here. Keep your eyes peeled while crossing the city, as you might run into celebrity or two in your local bar or bookshop.

According to recent news reports, The Crow will soon return to the big screen in a reboot featuring American actor Jason Momoa. Adapted by award-winning English film director Corin Hardy, The Crow Reborn is based on the 1989 comic book The Crow by James O’Barr. In the remake Momoa appears as aspiring rock musician Eric Draven, who returns from the dead to seek revenge on the criminal organization that murdered his fiancée. The movie is expected to begin filming in Budapest in February.

Following the success of his stimulating science fiction film Jupiter’s Moon, a refugee saga that earned international praise at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, director Kornél Mundruczó is on a roll. His next film Deeper will be shot in Budapest this year, considered by many to be the producer’s debut on the Hollywood cinematic stage. The movie is based on the script by American screenwriter Max Landis – son of comedy king John Landis – whose name is attached to brilliant blockbusters such as Chronicle and big-budget Netflix fantasy film Bright.

What makes Deeper even more anticipated is that the drama will star actor Bradley Cooper, whose most prominent roles span such movies as American Sniper, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. Based on the synopsis, Cooper will appear in the movie as a former astronaut, who signs up for a mission to take a submarine to the deepest part of the ocean.

This spring, a duo of renowned filmmakers, James Cameron and Tim Miller, will shoot scenes in Budapest for Terminator 6, set to be released in 2019 and starring former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, to be united with actress Linda Hamilton for this next film in the franchise.

Meanwhile, a new six-episode television series by the creators of Downtown Abbey will focus on the secret love affair between Doctor Zhivago writer Boris Pasternak and Olga Ivinskaya. The film, set to be shot in Budapest, is based on the book Lara by Anna Pasternak, great-niece of the Nobel-Prize winning writer.
