Primarily known as an industrial zone, Budapest’s Csepel Island is rarely visited by those who don’t live there. However, with the relaunch of one of the city’s greatest skating arenas, now you have every reason to get out to this outer district. Set up on Szent Imre Square, a short walk from the HÉV commuter train stop of the same name, a spacious ice rink awaits skaters of all ages and levels, from beginners to adept performers of figure eights. For speed racing, a winding ice slide connects to the main skating area.

If you want to take a break from all the zooming around, wooden kiosks set up around the square offer warming treats and hot drinks. Entrance costs 700 forints and you’ll be charged 600 forints to rent skates. Get there by taking the frequent H7 commuter train south from Pest’s Boráros Square (accessible by tram 2 or tram 4-6), and get off at the Szent Imre tér.
