The ever-creative Ludwig Museum in the millennial arts complex of south Pest has come up with a great idea for imaginative Christmas gifts. Pooling the talents of Hungary’s most talented designers, plus a few famous international names, reflecting the gallery’s own remit of showcasing contemporary Magyar talent and global artists from the 1950s onwards, the Ludwig has brightened its in-house store with some 30 striking and original artifacts of varying styles and uses. Quality gifts by domestic designers include fashion accessories, things for the home, and sundry unique and small-batch products, alongside the regular coffee-table art books, posters and other decorative goodies.

The range of gifts on display in the gift shop at the Ludwig echoes the creative, colorful and inspiring works of art within the gallery itself.

Starting with fashion accessories, such as unusual, illustrative pieces by Juli Ilyés, and the Op Art-inspired rings and bangles of the EVOKE collection recently created by Karman Jewelry, the selection moves on to the Malinovka notebooks, diaries and postcards finely executed by the fair hand of MOME graduate Judit Szolnoki-Szendrődi.

Also featured are the tote bags in brilliant colors by Budapest-based independent women’s fashion label Zsófi Hidasi, along with its Blue Hour collection inspired by twilight, examples of the clean and intuitive style of this online brand.

Note also the concrete wall clocks and candleholders from the MOHA workshop, and the cute hand-crocheted figures by Freshka Design, including Hektor the Mini Hedgehog and Luna the Unicorn.

If you need your Christmas cards to stand out, then look no further than JÖF, some with Budapest themes and others designed with children in mind.

As a conversation piece when serving visiting friends coffee, choose one of the series of bizarre cups designed for the museum by Ostástka, iconoclastic skits on the works of Warhol and Picasso, among others.
