Tamás Járosi and Luzsa Jacek opened their so-called guerrilla restaurant in Balatonfüred five years ago. Since then, Malackrumpli has moved to Tihany, where it now serves dishes created from seasonal, organic ingredients as a proper restaurant. The next step was somewhat unconventional: they decided to open an additional outlet in Buda, moving into the former Pasarét Club Restaurant at the sports complex of Angyalföld-based Vasas.
The whole operation started with Tamás Járosi, and his Fekete Bárány Manufactory at a farm in Balatonhenye. Malackrumpli operates with a true farm-to-table mentality, obtaining ingredients from only verified, carefully selected producers. Meals are prepared bistro-style, under the restaurant motto of "Good Food, No Design". The outlet at Lake Balaton is closed from September to May, so now is the perfect time to sample this new eatery in Buda.
Although the restaurant is very new, it doesn’t hide behind expressions like ‘trial run’. On its Facebook page, it clearly indicates that there will be initial hiccups. Even before taking down the original sign of the former Club Restaurant, Luzsa Jacek has set to work with the kitchen staff, creating a menu that lists characteristic dishes from Balaton, beetroot stew and burgers. Malackrumpli broadens the options in Pasarét – until now, residents could mainly choose between Pasarét Bisztró, Émile, Alessio and Fióka.
The menu lists four appetizers, eight main dishes and two desserts. We ordered a cream of pumpkin soup (1190 HUF), made with curry and served with cashew and cream cheese balls. The white risotto (2490 HUF) served with smoked mangalitsa ham is a light and balanced dish, yet our favorite was the BBQ mangalitsa sandwich (2990 HUF), in which the mustard gravy and crunchy pickles created a perfect match.
