Hold Street’s Downtown Market is slowly but surely becoming a top-notch urban gastronomic center, where we can not only purchase ingredients for a hearty home-cooked meal, but also stick around and choose among numerous high-quality eateries in case we get too hungry to wait until getting home. The only problem is that Downtown Market closes before dinnertime, but now one of its most esteemed eateries, Stand25 Bistro (founded and operated by top Magyar chef Tamás Széll, who led Hungary’s team to victory in the 2016 Bocuse d’Or European Championships), has extended its opening hours on Friday and Saturday, so that we can plan weekend dinners to last there until 10pm.
The dinner period begins at 6pm, and the bistro now features a new dinner menu: a five-course dinner costs 8,500 forints, which we can optionally pair with the restaurant’s wine recommendations. It is advised to arrive between 6pm and 8:15pm; reservations are available for one and a half to two hours. We can enjoy dishes like the Mangalica pork liver with sautéed potatoes and savoy cabbage, or the duck-liver terrine with rhubarb jam and milk loaf, or stick with the classics, such as the goulash soup and the Somlói sponge cake.
