Budapest’s biggest summertime extravaganza earned first prize in the Artists’ Favorite Festival category at the 2016 European Festival Awards, Sziget announced on their Facebook page yesterday. Sziget won in the category ahead of such major European festivals as Belgium’s Rock Werchter or the Primavera Sound in Barcelona. We congratulate the Sziget organizers and crew for this great achievement, and we look forward to rocking out at this year’s jamboree – the first major names to take the stage in 2017 have already been revealed, while weekly tickets are currently selling at discounted rates.
Featured among ten nominees in the Artists’ Favorite Festival category, Budapest’s biggest outdoor spectacular won first prize at last night’s gala ceremony of the 2016 European Festival Awards. This is not the first time that Sziget is honored in this major European contest – previously the Budapest-based jamboree topped the list in the Best Line-Up category, and earned the esteemed first prize for Best Major European Festival on two occasions.

Looking ahead, Sziget has already announced the first names of performers who are set to hit the stage at this year’s weeklong outdoor celebration, happening from August 9-16 on Budapest’s sprawling Óbuda Island. In 2017 the festival welcomes American electronic ensemble Major Lazer, Californian punk-rock band Bad Religion, and Belgian duo Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike who will hit the stage on the closing day of the festival to throw a spectacular final show.
Tickets to the festival are available for purchase on the official Sziget website, with passes for 5 days and 7 days currently offered at discounted rates through May 31st, but hurry up if you want to secure your tickets, as these passes are expected to sell out just like they did in 2016.
