Exercising is almost always more enjoyable outside instead of working out inside an enclosed facility, no matter what kind of fitness you pursue. Of course we have nothing against gyms, but as long as the weather permits, it is worthwhile to exploit all the possibilities of outdoor fitness, such as a nice hike in the Buda Hills, running on Margaret Island, skating at Nehru Part, or doing open-air workouts at various Budapest parks. Now, thanks to the new street-workout spot on central Pest’s Szerb Street, it is possible to exercise with our own body weight in the heart of downtown Budapest.

It used to be a slightly bizarre sight to see the vacant lot at Szerb Street 9, but now, the previously abandoned spot is filled with life again, as new street-workout equipment was recently installed there.

There are altogether five pieces of exercise equipment and a few benches for relaxation. The main point of exercising here is working out with our own body weight instead of built-in weights, which we can perfectly practice in this free facility.

A sit up bench, an elliptical trainer, and various multifunctional machines were also given a place at this previously bare spot, with an attractive and comfortable appearance that entices us to go and put our towel on the machines and do a few sit ups or yoga asanas.

The fitness and recreation park of Szerb Street awaits exercise buffs from as early as 7am, but those who swear by evening workouts won’t be disappointed either, as this public facility is open until 9pm.
