By clicking on the train icon in Google Maps, we can now browse through Hungary’s domestic railway routes. The application has been helping out public-transport passengers for a long time in cities of 64 countries, including Budapest and other Hungarian towns, such as Miskolc, Debrecen, and Pécs, so it was high time for trains to keep pace with modern technology. From now on, some 90 railway routes operated jointly by the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV), subsidiary MÁV-START, and regional railroad GYSEV (Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurt Railway Company), as well as more than 1,200 railway stations, are all added to the application.
The Google Maps application, expanded with railroad timetables, is available on Android and iOS alike, and the map can also be accessed through the Google Maps website. The system displays the optimal accessibility of the entered destination; by using the search engine we can access all timetables and find out what journey time to expect.
Furthermore, there is also one-click access to MÁV-START’s online ticket-purchasing site. The railway company’s Internet search engine, Elvira, will also continue to provide this service.
