Our weekly roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who must not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – exhibitions, parties, live music, festivals, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

Noon - midnight:Oktoberfest Budapest at 1956 Memorial SquareLike at the Münich-based Oktoberfest, barrels of beer star in the Hungarian edition of the biggest suds-soaked festival in Budapest, taking place between September 29-October 2 at the city’s 1956 Memorial Square, just a short stroll away from the historic Heroes’ Square. Apart from the 50 performers and the 300 different kinds of beer, there will be another special flavor added to the biggest beer festival of the capital, coming straight from Africa. Yes, you read it right. In 2016, you can enjoy African dishes and drinks, dance performances, and the concert of Mr. President (aka Coco Jambo) at Oktoberfest. Cheers! 6pm - 8pm:
“The Wild West. A History of Wroclaw’s Avant-Garde”
at Ludwig MuseumWith a population of almost a million before World War II, the city of Wroclaw in western Poland – formerly called Breslau – was taken by the Third Reich, and by the end of the three-month Siege of Breslau in 1945, it was razed to the ground. While rebuilding the city took decades, various cultures met across the wild fields, and in the spirit of freedom and independence, artists that came together here created their own microcosm, where they performed various experiments. The exhibition presents a vast collection of artworks, including films, photos, and recordings portraying the city’s daily life and architecture, alongside its theater and design scene from the 1960s until modern times. The opening ceremony of the exhibition is on September 30th at 6pm, and the artworks are on view from October 1st through November 27th.

8pm - 9pm: Miet Warlop – “Dragging The Bone” at Trafó GalleryFor the last ten years or so, Belgian artist Miet Warlop has been pursuing visual experiments on stage. Addressing concepts such as ambition, enthusiasm, and determination, this new production merges the immaterial processes of the work into a “sculptural event”. With a title that refers to an Etruscan object in bronze with divinatory properties, the “Dragging the Bone exhibit stages a narrative, a life that becomes petrified.

The artist's mix of ‘serious’ humor and frightening ecstasy is a visual gem that takes a deep dive into your imagination. On view between September 30-October 1.

In the past 20 or so years, Sote has published his work with such established music labels like Warp, Sub Rosa, and Opal Tapes, amongst others.
