Uber, which offered a well-known alternative to taxis in Budapest by operating with favorable fares and community collaboration, will officially suspend its operation in Hungary from July 24 due to legal changes; therefore, passengers in the Hungarian capital will no longer be able to use the services until the current regulations change.

Yesterday morning, those registered to Uber’s newsletter received an e-mail informing them that due to government legislation, Uber will remove the Hungarian capital from its global map, and will also close the company’s Budapest office. The e-mail reads, “We regret to inform you that Uber will suspend its service in Hungary from July 24th, 2016.”

On its Hungarian Facebook page, Uber writes, “This is a very sad day for us. We have to say goodbye for a while. Due to legislative changes, we are forced to suspend our Uber service in Budapest. Thank you, for using and loving Uber! You can still use the application till 24 July. Until then, share your favorite Uber-related moments with us!”Uber will maintain the suspension of its services in Hungary until the current regulations change.
