In their first match of the 2016 European Football Championships, Hungary’s national team triumphed over Austria 2:0, prompting thousands of fans to fill Budapest’s streets to literally jump for joy while chanting in unison and hugging complete strangers – and while this was just the first game of the tournament, the decisive victory is certainly a hopeful harbinger of good odds for further victories ahead. We Love Budapest staff photographer Norbert Hartyányi took pictures of the fervent Magyar fans watching the game at Football Island, complete with face paint, crazy hats, and huge smiles.
