Our weekly roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who must not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – club parties, exhibits, live music, cocktails, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

9am - 10pm:

Fröccs Piknik Fesztivál
at Vajdahunyad CastleOne of the main participants of the event is the popular Hungarian refreshment drink, fröccs, which became known worldwide as spritzer, thanks to Hungarian inventor Ányos Jedlik. Besides the drinks made from wine, the drink-masters will create great spitzers from beer, pálinka, and other potent potables, and of course they will have some non-alcoholic spitzers made from fresh fruit, so children can have a drink, too. The most popular street-food kitchens will also be there.
10am - 11pm: International Beer Festival at Millenáris Park Hungary’s biggest and most prestigious beer festival will be organized in Budapest this weekend, presenting local craft beers, as well as the products of international small-scale breweries. More than 300 types of beer, street food, and an international beer competition make this festival a true funstival.

8pm - 10.30pm:

Alexander Hacke & Danielle de Picciotto – “Perserverentia” album-release gig
at A38 The bass guitarist and music director of the Einstürzende Neubauten, Alexander Hacke has been performing lately with his wife, the Berlin-based visual and film artist and designer Danielle de Picciotto. Their latest album, titled “Perseverantia”, is being released this month, which they will present on their new tour that brings them back to the A38 Ship. One of the greatest masters of contemporary music in Budapest!
8pm - : Nausae, Pepi Rössler, Piss Crystals, Seeking A Fox at Zeg ZugClose to the French screamo/emotive hardcore of Amanda Woodward lies Germany’s Nausae, but with a special touch of unbiased spirit. Each scream is genuine from the heart, every chord is stirring, and each written line fits utterly perfectly. Before them, Hungarian post-punk/emocore bands will make you sadder and sadder.

11pm - 5am: Black Trap #5 Presents Apashe at Gödör KlubApashe is a music producer originally from Brussels who moved to Montreal to study electroa-coustics at Concordia University. After two years of studies, he was hired by Sonart to work as a full-time sound designer. Apashe has been making music since 2005. He is exploring all kinds of sounds influenced by hip-hop, neurofunk, and electro.Saturday

9am - 10pm:

21st Mayday of Museums
at Hungarian National Museum The 21st Mayday of Museums is happening during May 21-22 at Múzeumkert and the Hungarian National Museum. This time, the event aims to revive the atmosphere of the summers of the 19th century: the Walpurgis Nights, the elegance and the salons. You’ll be able to drive a still functioning Ford Model T or use Bell’s telephone, and also participate in workshops, where you can make everything from 3D shows to paper bats. You can also visit the ongoing exhibitions and enjoy the concerts of the Váczi Eszter Quartet or Nemadomfel. Don’t miss it! 2pm - 2pm:

Contra Mundum Presents Around the Clock – Birthday Edition
at Corvin ClubIt’s been a long wait, but Budapest-based partygoers have a big fat Contra Mundum Around The Clock party ahead of them again. Since it’s Contra Mundum’s birthday, you can expect lush beats (and bodies) fitting for the occasion, and also a stellar lineup (as in “astronomical”): 40 DJs and producers will have a chance to bloom and prosper on four floors, with no regard to time (and space). The celebration will start on the refurbished roof terrace and after the dark night falls, it will fall back to the dark club hall where you can engage in various dance-oriented activities well into the next day.
10pm - 5am: RIO Saturday: Lacora | Twins | Antonyo at Cafe del RioRIO Budapest brings the buzz into your Saturday nights with the hottest summer tunes and your favorite hits. Besides RIO’s resident DJs, some of Hungary’s best music masters spin the disc to make this summer yet another memorable one.

11pm - 4am: NIGHTDRIVE PRESENTS Samiyam (Live) at Toldi ClubExperimental beat pioneer Samiyam takes the legacy of all Detroit’s talented musical sons and daughters and makes hip-hop beats filled with snippets of soul, funk, ’70s Italian horror-flick soundtracks, Nintendo bonus-level music, and ’90s hip-hop. Somehow, with this much content, the beats still manage to sound gloriously minimal and disjointed. He gained notoriety as one of the first wave of artists to emerge from the LA beat scene championing wonky beats and reinvigorating hip-hop to its core. He collaborated with flying releasing music together under there now legendary FLYamSAM alias.

Live performances from the elusive beatmaker are rare – so don’t miss this opportunity!
11pm - 6am: BOUNCE Presents Ngly at LÄRMLittle is known about
Ngly: his productions are signed to different prestigious record labels in New York, such as L.I.E.S Records and Russian Torrent Versions. In 2014, he releases one EP simply entitled “NGLY”, alongside many other productions with house music sonorities. Acclaimed by the critics, this DJ cannot afford to rest on his laurels. He collaborates with several artists on different projects giving birth to tracks, such as “Swere” with Florian Kupfer, “Taxes” with Patricia, and “DAGA” with his longtime colleague, DJ Slugbug.

His live performances have been known to be occultish happenings, marrying the buoyancy of house with gothic atmospheres.
Sunday

MüPa – Palace Of ArtsThe Palace of Delights welcomes families who wish to spend time with creative and meaningful activities. The children’s concerts, dance shows, and fairy-tale theatrical acts – as well as musicals and other creative activities, including games – are always linked to a weekly theme.

7.30pm - 10pm: Napoleon, Fall Of Minerva, Satelles at A38 UK hardcore quartetNapoleon are finally back with their debut album “Newborn Mind”, and it’s safe to say it was well worth the wait. The band’s raw ability to combine abrasive hardcore with intricate and technical guitars is displayed in volumes in their brand-new ten-track release, which will truly set the bar within the melodic hardcore genre and beyond. They will present it to the Hungarian audience on this day, together with Fall Of Minerva and Satelles. 8pm - 11.30pm: Cudi Purci Booking Presents Crude SS, Diskobra, Dog Attack at DRRPNCPioneers of the early d-beat scene, Crude SS, need little introduction to the extreme-punk record-buying audience. Formed in Fagersta, Sweden in 1982, C SS helped define the whole crust-core subgenre, along with their pals Anti-Cimex and Mob 47. Hints of extreme metal à la Venom and Celtic Frost, mixed with the UK HC approach of Conflict, Crass and Discharge were the main ingredients for a recipe which allowed the band to build a following for more than three decades. This will be their first Hungarian concert, so don’t miss it!
8.30pm - :

Cinébar ~ Purple Rain
at PONTOON PONTOON and Budapest Rooftop Cinema are the hosts of a movie-night every other Sunday at the foot of the Chain Bridge. This time they will screen the movie that popped out from the imagination of Prince, the multitalented inventor of the color purple, who passed away too soon – Purple Rain, the movie about his early life, will be screened at the terrace.
