Last night, Hungary’s capital joined many other global cities in illuminating their most famous landmarks with green and yellow, heralding the Rio Summer Games. Budapest residents and visitors enjoyed the special sight of the Chain Bridge lit up with the vibrant colors of the Brazilian flag.

On Wednesday, exactly 100 days before the beginning of the Rio Olympics, almost 200 light bulbs of the bridge were covered with a special, colored, heat-resistant film cover. With this, Budapest, a candidate city for the 2024 Olympics, joined the international initiative to greet the games. According to the announcement, the 144 metal-halide lamps on the pylon body received green, while the 52 metal-halide lamps on the pylon crown received yellow illumination. So, last night the main components of Chain Bridge reflected the national colors of Brazil, the host of this year’s Olympic Games.

Rio de Janeiro will host the Summer Olympic Games of 2016, start at the oceanside city’s Maracana Stadium on August 5th. Because of this occasion, Budapest joined the planet-spanning light show that united cities in the spirit of the Rio Olympics, with other metropolises from London to Tokyo dressing their iconic sights in green and yellow, as well.
