Our weekly roundup for the upcoming weekend offers plenty of suggestions for where to go, what to do, and who must not be missed during the next three days. There are always so many happenings to choose from in Budapest – club parties, exhibits, live music, cocktails, performances, and more – but here is our pick of the bunch for the imminent 72 hours or so:

Friday

10am: Gateway to Space Budapest – International Space Exhibition at Millenáris Park Discover the amazing history of space travel at this interactive exhibit happening between January 15th and March 15th at Millenáris, where you can experience what it feels like to be an astronaut.

Discover mankind’s biggest adventure and our most fascinating frontier by looking at and touching more than 100 objects from the US Space and Rocket Center’s impressive collection. Also, for everybody dreaming about becoming an astronaut themselves, there is a Spacecamp happening after the exhibition.

6pm: Vacant City exhibition at the Hungarian Contemporary Architecture CenterKÉK (Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Center) launched a new project in 2012 about the use of vacant facilities. The Lakatlan Város (Vacant City) program aims to find innovative solutions for the community-based regeneration of vacant urban properties. The program brought together initiatives that had contributed to the city’s social cohesion, quality of life, and local economic development with property owners who are willing to make alliances with communities to revitalize their spaces and neighborhoods. The exhibition Vacant Cityopens at the KÉK gallery on January 15th to present places that the project’s founders focused on in past years.

8pm:

One Night at Liberté – Stahl x Hegyi Acoustic
at Liberté Grand Café Enjoy a jazz, swing, and soul evening at Liberté.

Taking advantage of this beautiful new coffeehouse, the place invited two of the most charming singers in town to get together for a collaboration for the first time. Barbara Stahl, who also sings in the well-known Hungarian pop band Mary PopKids, and Dóra Hegyi, who already worked with iamyank and Belau, will surely leave you breathless.

10pm: Rock The Friday at BRKLYN The collaboration between Rock the City and BRKLYN, Rock The Friday debuts on this day!

What does that mean?

The familiar team gets loose on Kazinczy Street from week to week, starting from now.

Dr BRS and friends, as well as the BRKLYN members, await you at BRKLYN with party anthems, classics, and the newest music of 2016.
11pm:

Corvin Club x Longtrack pres. Robert Babicz
at Corvin Club The producer, DJ, label owner, mastering guru, sound designer, and avid photographer Robert Babicz takes Budapest by storm this weekend. Due to his markedly unique, almost experimental approach to house, techno, and all related genres, and his much-sought-after tracks, Babicz is one of the most acclaimed names in the scene today, lauded by fans and fellow DJs alike. In his legendary studio, he’s usually working on tracks produced by the biggest international artists, and in 2015 he launched BabiczStyle, his own platform to push his works. Saturday

9am: Pancake-lovers weekend at Sütit akarok! Is there anyone who doesn’t like pancakes? Scarcely! And from the wide selection they will offer at Sütit akarok!, anyone will find the type they like: American pancakes (with Oreo, Nutella, banana, and apple-vanilla ice cream flavors), giant pancakes (orange-chocolate; apple-vanilla ice cream; Nutella-banana; Oreo-chocolate, and flodni), retro pancake casserole (cocoa, jam, walnut, cinnamon), cottage-cheese-filled pancakes baked in vanilla cream, and lemon-curd pancake cake, just to name a few of the flavorful flapjacks that will fly here.

11am:The Freedom of the Past at Hungarian House of Photography (Mai Manó Ház)The Freedom of the Past is a selection from Róbert Alföldi’s photographic collection, that ranges from the 1960s to the present day. He was a collector who had and has an eye for the unparalleled creativity that has distinguished the photographic works expressly made with an artistic purpose by photographers and other artists in Eastern Central Europe – including Hungary, of course – over the last 50 years.

In only seven years, Alföldi has managed to put together a potent collection of non-conformist photography – between January 16th and April 3rd, you can see it for yourself.

11am:

Gardrób Community Market – Király Street
at Central Passage We all have those pieces of clothing that are not the right fit anymore, or we just know we are never going to wear them again, but they are too nice to be thrown out.

The idea is simple: You bring the clothes, bags, accessories, and other knickknacks, and the organizers will guarantee the venue and the community.
2pm:

Bike ’n’ Nite 05
at Anker’tBike ’n’ Nite is a monthly event where combining volunteer work to help those in need, along with biking and the cultural and party scene of Budapest.

They spend a whole afternoon and evening to build a more conscious community with all kinds of programs, like parties with well-known artists and DJs.

The afternoon programs are free while the Bike ’n’ Nite party operates with an honesty box. The amount from the honesty box will go to people without homes and families in need. The weekly community cooking of Budapest Bike Maffia is also financed from this money, as well as the soup kitchens they host multiple times per week.

9pm: Stoned – 100% Rolling Stones & Dead Guys concert at FészekClassic rock, psychedelic rock, blues rock... it doesn’t matter, it’s only rock ’n’ roll, but we like it! And now, you can have a double dose of your favorite genre, with two outstanding acts rocking out on Fészek club’s stage on this Saturday night: Stoned, Hungary’s premier Rolling Stones tribute band, with the cosmic rockers of Dead Guys warming up the stage with their original songs and one-of-a-kind covers. Not only for men of wealth and taste.
Sunday

6am:

Contra Mundum: Afterhours – Polarize, Smole
at Corvin ClubBudapest never sleeps – not even after a Saturday night spent dancing and drinking.

That’s– why Afterhours came to life: a party series that starts at 6am, for those who still don’t want to leave the club, but spend some more time on the dance floor. This time, Polarize and Smole will stand behind the deck, to guide you through the first hours of the last day of the week.
7pm: Cudi Purci Booking Presents: Siberian Meat Grinder, Warchief, Dolor at Dürer KertSiberian Meat Grinder is a crossover gang from Russia’s frozen hell, mixing raging hardcore thrash with many different genres like black metal, rap, and stoner rock. This unstoppable mosh machine attracts crowds of headbangers everywhere with their adrenaline-soaked shows – and Budapest isn’t an exception. See you in the pit!

7.30pm: Hélène Grimaud and the Basel Chamber Orchestra at MüPa – Palace Of ArtsFounded in 1984, the Basel Chamber Orchestra continues the traditions of the similarly named ensemble led by Paul Sacher, the legendary conductor and impresario who commissioned works from Béla Bartók, among others. The orchestra’s repertoire lends equal weight to every style and genre from the Baroque to modern contemporary music, using period or modern instruments as each piece demands, placing it among only a handful of ensembles to adopt this approach.

The ensemble’s guest for this Budapest concert is herself an extraordinary personality: pianist Hélène Grimaud.
8pm: 60 years of music – Ennio Morricone at Papp László Budapest SportArena Internationally renowned Italian film composer Ennio Morricone will celebrate the 60th anniversary of his career as a professional composer and conductor with a large-scale world tour starting in January 2016. During his European tour last year, more than 150,000 tickets were sold – his performances received standing ovations and overwhelming critical acclaim in the media everywhere.
