Here’s something to make you start looking forward to 2016 – the next Sziget Festival will fill Budapest with groovy vibes during August 10-17. If you are unfamiliar with Sziget, or just want to experience a bit of nostalgia from last summer, check out the recently released
Sziget 2015 “aftermovie”:
Looking ahead to next summer, we now know that lovers of Icelandic music are in luck – cultic post-rock band Sigur Rós will appear in Budapest for the first time at Sziget 2016. Their concert promises to be one of the most extraordinary performances of the festival, as the guys prepare for their tour with brand-new visuals and a special set list extended with new songs.
Building on grindcore, death metal, and emo foundations, Bring Me The Horizon will come to Sziget after releasing their fifth studio album, the strongest and most mature piece of their career, which they released this year. The album landed second on the Billboard list, and compared to their previous releases, indicates major changes of direction in the band’s life.
Sziget’s musical lineup often includes performers who have yet to break into the public consciousness. Next year’s newbie could be Ireland’s secret indie-pop favorite, Kodaline. Their second studio album was released this February, and they will conclude this year more successful than ever with a sold-out tour in Britain. The band won two awards at the European Border Breakers Awards, and their songs were featured in several films and series.
Sziget will be the first Hungarian festival for M83, playing subtly electronic, dynamic, sometimes monumental yet dreamy indie and synthpop. In recent years, the band mainly produced soundtracks, but in 2016, the continuation of their album “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”, released in 2011, will surely come – including their hit song “Midnight City”.
After his successful first release titled “Trouble”, John Newman will come to Sziget to perform songs from his second studio album, released this October. In May of 2012, the whole world got to know his voice through the drum’n’bass anthem of Rudimental, “Feel the Love”, and the first track of his debut album, titled “Love Me Again”, blew up the top charts.
After this year’s fantastic concert, the amazing 27-year-old Danish singer-songwriter Karen Marie Ørsted, also known as MØ, will return to Sziget in 2016. MØ is one of her generation’s most interesting performers, whose popularity spread from the Scandinavian pop-music scene to the whole of Europe and America, as well.
The irresistible electro-swing formation of Marcus Füreder, Parov Stelar is one of the most hyper bands of large festivals. The band members create their music by combining tradition and progress, inspired by the world of jazz culture and cutting-edge electronica samples. It is no surprise that they are one of the best in the contemporary Austrian music scene, and one of Hungary’s crowd favorites.
The name Naughty Boy refers to a 30-year-old British producer-musician-songwriter-DJ, who has a nearly permanent place in top-10 music charts both as a producer and musician after his 2013 debut album and singles. His latest hit song is a collaboration with Beyoncé and Arrow Benjamin, titled “Runnin’ (Lose It All)”. Naughty Boy will perform in front of the local audience at Sziget for the first time.
“While the big names are yet to come, it seems that the ‘Sziget feeling’ means a lot to people by itself. After all, even without a complete list of performers, 25% of the tickets have been sold in the first 24 hours of sales,” said Sziget Festival head honcho Károly Gerendai.
