After many months of tramline-construction work along the Buda riverfront around Margaret Bridge, the first trial journey of a new tram that will serve this route was successfully accomplished last weekend, traveling between Széll Kálmán Square and Bem Quay. Hungarian photographer Tamás Rizsavi hitched a late-night ride aboard the historic test trip, now immortalized in this collection of colorfully illuminated pictures.

Both the project’s construction work and the technical-handover procedure are expected to be complete by December 23rd. After that, minor additional work will be done outside the track zone, which should not affect the tram’s regular operations. The tram is likely to start operating in mid-January of 2016, with the tram drivers receiving additional training, according to the BKK website.
