The story of CityMatiné began four years ago, when a group of friends wanted to enjoy their favorite music and some hamburgers while hanging out on Gellért Hill. Two weeks later, they created a Facebook event, invited all of their friends, then brought a large dose of drinks, a barbecue grill, and two speakers from Telep to the outdoor party place, and savored the sunset amid a successful celebration. Nowadays, the event series has more than 10,000 likes on Facebook, and a fixed venue, as well: Matiné Napozó, found at the top of the Buda Hills.

The first CityMatiné was held on Martinovics Hill four years ago. At the time, the audience consisted of roughly 150 people, including the police officers. Back then, no one thought that this event would ever become an ongoing institution, but it immediately became clear that Budapest has strong demand for this type of recreation.

Word around the party series spread quickly, and by now, they get thousands of people moving at a variety of locations. One reason for the popularity of CityMatiné must be that the organizers decided to hold the parties not only during the night, but also throughout the day, so that even children could have some fun at the event. Their goal has always been to make out the most of each event, and to make everyone feel good, surrounded by people with similar mentalities.A lot of changes happened with CityMatiné during the previous three summers, but perhaps the most important development just recently arrived: the organizers now have access to a pool complex at Csillebérc – found at the peak of the Buda Hills near Normafa – which will act as a fixed venue for the previously itinerant event from now on. At Matiné Napozó, the music can blare all day long, and we can swim around, get a tan, play volleyball, or just relax as a way of breaking away from city life, while the best DJs mix the finest tunes.

Thanks to this step forward, there are going to be a lot of new, exciting features, too: for example, between 10am and 6pm, they will provide babysitting with numerous skill-developing games, and a branch of Konyha from Madách Square will also be established here under the name “Nyárikonyha”. The project has another good side to it – the Pioneers’ Great Camp of Csillebérc, built in 1948, will come alive again after a very long time.

The opening weekend of Napozó began with SoulClap Budapest on May 29th, featuring hip-hop music mixed with jazz, soul and funk. On Saturday, the event series continued with another episode of CityMatiné, with DJ Sobek, Captain Knuckles, and Monolit, while on Sunday, culinary delights took over in the form of Brunch and Omega Chill, courtesy of Konyha.

In the future, Napozó will not only be a recurring venue of the event series, but on June 28, the official closing party of the Vodafone 4G Budapest Essentials festival will be held here, too. Until then, keep an eye out for the freshest CityMatiné parties, the next one being tomorrow!
