Between June 25 and 28, Budapest will become a huge festival location once again with the Budapest Essentials urban festival to be held for the second time. Thanks to the festival's jam-packed program, we will be able to get a taste of everything that makes the Hungarian capital so good. In essence, it's a showcase of the essential parts of Budapest. In addition to the cultural programs, vibrant nightlife and street food frenzy, international star performers will provide the buzzing atmosphere at this year's event.
This year, festival-goers can party in popular downtown clubs as well as specific public spaces and public buildings - including a number of World Heritage sites. The organisers of Budapest Essentials have just revealed the names of the first foreign performers, and according to their promise, the list will continue to grow.
Performers include the British synthpop hotshot La Roux who released a new album last year.
They will bring hits like In For The Kill and Let Me Down Gently.
After Ibiza and the Mexican BPM Festival, Solomun visits Budapest too. This is a real refreshment of the German house/deep house scene.
Katy B, who combines feminine and sensual vocals with elements of underground genres, will perform as well. The name of the London-based singer will be familiar to fans of popular music and those who watch the TV show The Voice.
Sub Focus, who has been one of the leaders of British drum'n'bass for 10 years comes with a DJ set, and Carl Craig, a pioneer of Detroit techno will strengthen the lineup of Budapest Essentials as well.
Similarly, the free-spirited and outspoken Dutch Dope D.O.D. and Gold Panda, operating with peculiarly intimate, intoxicating house compositions will also be present.
The organisers have rethought the concept of the urban festival. This year, there will be fewer foreign performers, but they all come from the forefront of light and underground music scene. In addition, much more attention will be paid to the touristic, gastronomical and cultural values of Budapest, as well as the creative youth living and creating in Budapest.
"This year, we will transform Budapest’s most extraordinary public spaces and buildings into real festival locations. Our guests being able to participate in all of the major events is a very important goal of ours. We want to create a real festival atmosphere to prove that Budapest is one of the most liveable and colourful capitals in Europe, because of the people living in it," says chief organiser, Dr. Gergely Csókay.
A limited number of early bird tickets are now available for 9 900 forints.
