Central Pest's Capa Center and Mai Manó House continue their fine work promoting Hungary's rich relationship with the past and present of photography by launching a four-day party beginning today, the Festival on the Street of Photography. During October 9-12 the two venues offer visitors extended opening hours and a wide variety of free programs to entertain guests of all ages, all while offering interesting insight about the many forms of photo artistry.
Along with the opportunity to view the Capa Center's newly opened "Second Skin" exhibit for no charge, the festival offers a creatively comprehensive range of events and offerings, including daily performances by revered musicians – highlights include the jazz masters of the Dresch Quartet on October 9 at 9pm and the Grencsó Kollektíva on October 11 at 8:30pm, and an audio-visual DJ-VJ set with Zagar and Urbanizer on October 9 at 9pm. Other attractions encompass light painting, dance performances, and children's activities, along with a temporary exhibition of amateur and professional photography, as well as a chance to dress up in turn-of-the-century costumes and have funny portraits taken.
More serious photography buffs can take part in a discussion about the Hungarian Press Photo Exhibition and Competition on Saturday at 6pm, while the "FOTÓshop" art fair happening from 10am til 3pm on Sunday is likely to be a popular attraction for amateurs and professionals alike, offering the chance to discover the future’s leading visual artists.
While entry to both exhibition spaces and almost all extra programs are free, one highly anticipated program does have an entry fee, but it's well worth the cost – a pre-premiere screening on October 11 at 5pm of The Salt of the Earth, the new film by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado about photographer Sebastião Salgado, which will not have its official debut in Europe until after this festival is over.
